Description: The arch of peace is a monument of Milan, located in the middle of the wide area of Piazza Sempione.
It was started in 1807 by Luigi Cagnola under the pressure of the municipality of Milan and Napoleon. The work was now to two thirds when, with the fall of the Kingdom of Italy, the project was abandoned.
Only in 1826 was resumed the rebuilding of the Habsburg Empire under the Emperor Francis I of Austria, who dedicated it to peace that had met the various European powers in 1815.
After the death of Louis Cagnola, occurred in 1833, the work passed into the hands of Londonio and Pavelli, who completed in 1838, in time for the ceremony of inauguration participate Ferdinand I, Emperor of Austria and king of Lombardo-Veneto.
The June 8, 1859, four days after the victory of Magenta, there did their triumphal entry into Milan Napoleon III and Vittorio Emanuele, among cheers of the crowd.
